About My Art

Weeping Willow
Often when I start a new painting I am not entirely sure what I am about to create, with the risk of sounding corny I like to let my emotions and imagination take over. It is hard to explain my painting style, as I like to vary my technique and keep experimenting.
My artwork usually stands out as being quite bold, colourful, eye-catching and thickly painted, highlighting the possible textures created through oil paints. I like to think my abstract and contemporary style is quite original and offers a breath of fresh air to the usual art scene. I am not afraid to paint dark, gritty and even depressing looking paintings as I feel these are usually my most powerful pieces of work, gain the biggest responses from my audience and allow me to fully vent my feeling onto canvas.
The vast majority of my art is created through oil paints; however I have dabbled with watercolours and other artistic mediums. I have even mixed many types of paints together to create unusual combinations and textures, for example I once painted a picture with a mixture of bold oil paints and metallic car paints.
After I complete a number of my paintings, I often look back into them and try to understand what I have just created and what thoughts come into my head. I am very proud of the fact that some of my paintings gain very varied responses, with different images being seen from one person to the next. I personally believe everyone should enjoy art, and telling your audience what they have to see in your paintings is both naïve and insulting. The human imagination should be allowed to run riot when it comes to art.
